Chapter 19 - A Mother's Promise

The snows had completely melted from the city, leaving behind a vibrant, brilliant spring.
I drove up to Rocky Mountain National Park one final time, not as a victim running for her life, and not as a ghost seeking vengeance, but as a victor reclaiming her peace.
I walked out to the scenic overlook where the tragedy had begun. The air was crisp, clean, and filled with the scent of pine and blooming wildflowers.
Leo laughed happily in his stroller, reaching out his tiny hands to catch the warm mountain breeze.
I knelt beside him, brushing a soft curl from his forehead, and looked out over the endless expanse of the Rocky Mountains.
"They thought they could break us, Leo," I whispered softly, smiling as the sun washed over my face. "They thought the cold would take everything we had."
