Chapter 25 - The Raid

When the tactical team breached my estate, the operation was swift and clinical.
The two intruders sent by Richard were caught off guard inside the utility corridor before they could even reach the second-floor landing. They were zip-tied, dragged down the grand staircase, and tossed into the back of a van while flashbulbs from local investigative journalists illuminated the gates.
Up in the nursery, I threw open the door and rushed to the crib.
Leo stirred sleepily, rubbing his eyes with his tiny fists, completely oblivious to the war being fought around him.
"Mommy...?" he mumbled, blinking up at me.
Hot tears finally broke past my defenses, spilling down my cheeks as I scooped him into my arms, burying my face in his soft curls. "I've got you, baby. I've got you. We're safe."
Detective Miller walked into the nursery a moment later, removing his cap and looking at me with profound respect.

"We secured the perimeter, Elena. Richard Sterling is in custody, and his entire digital infrastructure has been quarantined by federal cyber-agents," Miller reported softly. "You handled that with ice in your veins."
"I told you, Detective," I murmured, holding my son tighter. "The mountain taught me how to survive. Nothing will ever touch my family again."
