Chapter 16 - Blood on the Snow

"Get down!" I screamed, diving behind a jagged boulder as a second bullet shattered the rock inches from my head.

The stinging wind whipped snow across my face. My heart pounded furiously, but my survival instincts kicked in with brutal clarity. This wasn't just corporate sabotage anymore—it was a coordinated execution to ensure no one left alive could trace the money to its true source.

Peering cautiously around the frozen edge of the boulder, I scanned the tree line.

A dark silhouette moved stealthily among the pines, holding a suppressed rifle.

I unholstered my firearm, my hands steady despite the freezing temperature. I had survived this mountain once before. I wasn't about to die here now, leaving my son an orphan.

The gunman stepped out from the shadows, creeping toward my position to finish the job.

I took a deep breath, aligning my sights through the blowing snow.

Bang.

The single shot echoed sharply across the canyon.

The silhouette stumbled backward, dropping the rifle into the snow, and collapsed heavily against the frozen earth.
