Chapter 29 - The Summit of Grace

I looked down at the narrow ledge four hundred feet below.

From this height, it looked small, distant, and insignificant—just a natural scar on the face of a majestic mountain.

The ghosts of Michael, Ashley, Julian, and the Sterlings felt lifetimes away. They had tried to bury me in the snow, believing my story ended on that frozen precipice.

Instead, they had merely written the prologue to my reign.

I knelt down beside my son, wrapping my arms around him and pulling him close against my chest.

"What are you thinking about, Mommy?" Leo asked, looking up at me with bright, intelligent eyes.

"I'm thinking about how strong we are, sweet boy," I whispered, pressing a kiss to his forehead. "And how there is nothing in this world we can't overcome."

Leo beamed, holding up his toy airplane and launching it forward into the open mountain wind.

The plane soared high and free across the canyon, catching the golden afternoon sunlight before gliding out of sight.
