Chapter 15 - Echoes in the East

Three weeks later, across the ocean in a high-security federal medical prison, Elena Vance sat in a sterile white cell, staring blankly at a small television screen bolted to the wall.

The news anchor was broadcasting live from New York, detailing Chloe Vance’s sweeping philanthropic foundation launch—a multi-billion-dollar initiative dedicated to rehabilitating victims of corporate fraud and domestic abuse, chaired personally by the young billionaire.

Elena raised a trembling hand to scratch at her cheek, her face aged prematurely by stress, hatred, and absolute defeat. She had tried to break a girl, believing she was molding a helpless servant. Instead, she had forged the most dangerous, brilliant corporate predator of the century.

The screen cut to a live interview. Chloe stood at the podium in a pristine white pantsuit, looking directly into the camera lens with eyes so cold and sharp they seemed to pierce right through the glass of the television set.

"To those who believe power is something you inherit," Chloe’s voice rang clear and steady across the prison block, "let me remind you: true power is forged in the fire of everything they tried to destroy you with."

Elena let out a hollow, defeated sob, burying her face in her raw, unmanicured hands as the prison guard locked her cell door from the outside, throwing away the key forever.
