Chapter 3 - The Midnight Boardroom

The Vance International corporate headquarters on the forty-fifth floor was pitch black except for the glowing neon skyline of the financial district reflecting off floor-to-ceiling glass windows. At 2:00 AM, the emergency boardroom doors hissed open.
Arthur strode in, flanked by Chloe—now dressed in a sharp, slate-gray Chanel pantsuit that mirrored her father's authority, her scars hidden beneath crisp cuffs—and three federal financial investigators. Seated at the head of the mahogany table, looking pale and sweating profusely under the fluorescent lights, was Marcus Vance, Arthur’s younger brother and the company’s Chief Operating Officer.
"Marcus," Arthur said casually, pulling out a chair and sitting down directly opposite his brother. "Working late? Or just finishing up the final wire transfers to the Cayman Islands?"
Marcus swallowed hard, forcing an uneasy, nervous chuckle. "Arthur! What is this? Security wouldn't let me leave the parking garage, and these men in suits ambushed me in the elevator. What’s going on? Where’s Elena?"
"Elena is currently locked in a room without Wi-Fi, realizing that her prenuptial agreement voids all financial claims in cases of corporate sabotage," Chloe spoke up. Her voice was steady, cold, and possessed an authority that made Marcus jolt as if he had been struck. She tossed a thick manila folder across the polished wood table. "Drop the act, Uncle Marcus. We found the digital ledger on your secondary server at 11:45 PM."
Marcus’s eyes darted to the folder, then to the federal investigators who stepped forward, badges gleaming. "You can't prove anything. That server is encrypted—"
May you like
"It was encrypted with an algorithm you coded in college, Uncle," Chloe interrupted, leaning forward, her gaze piercing. "The same one you used to hack my university portal to block my emails to Dad, making it look like I had dropped out and blocked him first. You and Elena thought you could break me mentally, strip me of my inheritance, and force a distress sale of Vance Logistics to your shell corporation."
Marcus slowly slumped back in his chair, the color entirely draining from his face as the trap snapped shut.
