Chapter 5 - The Heir Apparent

Three months later, the glass-walled boardroom of Vance International was packed to capacity. Institutional investors, media moguls, and board directors sat in absolute silence as the heavy oak doors swung open.
Arthur Vance walked in—not to take the chairman’s seat, but to stand beside it. In his place sat Chloe Vance, wearing a tailored midnight-blue blazer, her hair pulled back into a sharp, flawless knot. On the projector screen behind her, the quarterly restructuring report displayed a staggering 42% surge in corporate recovery and asset retrieval.
"Good morning," Chloe’s voice projected through the surround-sound audio system, crisp, commanding, and absolute. "Today marks the official conclusion of our internal asset recovery audit. As of 8:00 AM, all subsidiary holdings unlawfully diverted by former COO Marcus Vance and co-conspirator Elena Vance have been fully repatriated."
A murmur rippled through the room. One of the senior board directors, a man who had long doubted her youth, raised his hand. "Miss Vance, stepping into the role of co-CEO at your age, following such a traumatic family ordeal... do you believe you have the emotional fortitude to lead a multi-billion-dollar acquisition campaign in European markets next month?"

Chloe didn't blink. She didn't hesitate. She locked eyes with the director, a faint, cold smile touching the corner of her lips.
"I spent six months scrubbing marble floors with acid while being told I was nothing," Chloe replied, her voice ringing clear across the silent boardroom. "If I can survive a masterclass in betrayal delivered under my own roof, navigating international corporate sharks will be a walk in the park. Now, let’s turn to page four of the prospectus."
