Chapter 20 - The Crown of Glass and Steel

One month later, the grand ballroom of the Gran Imperial Hotel was packed with over a thousand high-profile guests, international investors, and government dignitaries.
The occasion was the official merger of Montero Enterprises and the Gran Imperial Hotel Group into a single, three-billion-dollar global entity: The Montero-Imperial Conglomerate.
Alejandro stood at the podium in a tailored black tuxedo, looking confident and peaceful.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Alejandro spoke into the microphone, his voice echoing across the crystal chandeliers. "For years, I thought strength was built on authority and wealth. But I learned that real strength comes from truth, justice, and the courage to fight for the people you love. Please welcome the majority owner, Chairwoman, and my wife—Lucía Montero."
The crowd erupted into thunderous applause as Lucía walked up to the stage. She wore an exquisite midnight-blue silk gown, her hair flowing in soft waves, looking like absolute royalty.
She took the microphone, smiling at Alejandro with deep affection.
"Thank you," Lucía said smoothly to the crowd. "When I worked in this hotel months ago, cleaning floors in a blue smock, people looked through me as if I were invisible. They assumed that because I was poor, I had no power. Tonight, I dedicate this company to every hard-working person who has ever been made to feel small by those in power."
The room cheered, standing up in a massive ovation.
Later that night, Alejandro and Lucía stood on the rooftop garden of the hotel, overlooking the glittering skyline of Mexico City. Sofia was sleeping soundly in a bassinet nearby under the watchful eye of elite guards.
Alejandro wrapped his arms around Lucía’s waist, pulling her close. "You did it, my Queen. You reclaimed your mother's empire and saved mine."
Lucía turned in his arms, resting her hands against his chest, a soft, mysterious smile playing on her lips.
"I have one last secret to tell you, Alejandro," Lucía whispered.
Alejandro raised an eyebrow, smiling. "Another one? What could possibly be bigger than owning the Gran Imperial?"
Lucía reached into her clutch bag and pulled out a small, sealed envelope stamped with the crest of the Mexican Supreme Court.
"When my mother died forty years ago," Lucía said softly, "she didn't just own 51% of the Gran Imperial. She held a secret rider clause in the original corporate charter."
Alejandro opened the envelope and read the legal document. His eyes widened in absolute shock.
"This clause states..." Alejandro read aloud, his voice trembling, "...that the entire land upon which the city’s financial district sits—including the land under Montero Headquarters—was leased from my mother’s estate for fifty years. And the lease expires... tomorrow."

Lucía laughed softly, clinking her champagne glass against his. "Which means, my darling CEO... starting tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM... you are officially paying rent to your wife."
Alejandro burst into loud, genuine laughter, pulling Lucía into a passionate kiss under the stars as the city lights blazed beneath them—a testament to a love that had survived betrayal, blood, and the ultimate test of power.
