Chapter 9 - The Reckoning

Panicked, Valeria stood up to flee, but federal officers immediately blocked the exit doors.
"This is a lie!" Valeria shrieked. "Doña Elena authorized every single transaction! She gave me power of attorney!"
"I authorized nothing!" Doña Elena screamed, her aristocratic composure completely shattering as she realized the depth of her own foolishness. "You betrayed me?!"
"You betrayed yourself, Doña Elena," Gabriel Vance spat coldly as hand-cuffs clicked around his wrists. "You were so blinded by your classist hatred for a maid’s daughter that you threw your own son away and gave the keys to your kingdom to total strangers."
The federal agents led Valeria and Gabriel Vance away in handcuffs amidst a storm of flashing camera lights.
Doña Elena sank into her leather chair, her hands trembling violently. She looked up at Alejandro, her eyes filled with defeat. "Alejandro... my son... save the company. I was wrong. We can fix this together."
Alejandro walked up to his mother, staring down at her with cold indifference. "There is no 'together,' Mother. I bought out sixty percent of the board’s individual shares this morning using my private venture capital. I am no longer just the CEO. I am the sole owner."
He slid a document across the table toward her.
"This is an order of eviction from the Polanco estate, along with a permanent restraining order. You will live on a small monthly allowance in a quiet town far away from Mexico City. You will never step foot in my home, my company, or near my daughter again."

"You would banish your own mother for that woman?!" Doña Elena wept.
"That woman is my wife," Alejandro said firmly. "And unlike you, she actually has integrity."
