Chapter 12 - The Serpent in the FamilySarah didn't waste a single second. She strapped Maya safely into her stroller, grabbed her designer leather tote bag packed with baby essentials and legal documents, and took the private elevator straight down to the underground parking garage.

Her mind raced with sharp, analytical clarity. Elena Carter lived in an exclusive, gated estate in Greenwich, Connecticut—a sprawling property purchased, as Sarah now realized, with funds siphoned from the very family trust Sarah's father had established for Michael's career ascension.

Sarah walked up the stone steps, Maya sleeping peacefully in the carriage, and pressed her thumb firmly against the brass doorbell. A few moments later, the heavy oak door swung open.
Elena Carter stood in the doorway, dressed in an immaculate cashmere cardigan and diamond stud earrings, looking every bit the picture of upper-class grace.
The moment Elena saw Sarah standing on her porch, her perfectly manicured hand flew to her throat, and the color drained completely from her face.
"Sarah..." Elena whispered, her voice trembling slightly. "What... what brings you all the way out here?"

Sarah stepped past her uninvited, the sound of her heels clicking sharply against the foyer’s polished marble floor.
"Good afternoon, Elena," Sarah said, her voice dropping into a dangerous, icy calm. "We need to talk about your Cayman Islands retirement fund."
