Chapter 3 - The Coldest ThanksThe champagne flute slipped from Michael’s fingers, shattering against the marble floor, spraying amber liquid across the expensive rug.

Lily shrieked, scrambling backward like a cornered animal, pulling the edges of the hotel robe tight across her chest. Her face drained of all color, shifting from flushed excitement to a sickly, mottled grey.
"Sarah!" Michael choked out, stumbling up from the sofa, his trousers half-creased, his shirt collar unbuttoned. "What... how did you—this isn't what it looks like!"
"Save the script," Sarah said, stepping further into the room. Her eyes were ice-cold, devoid of the warmth that Michael had taken for granted for years. "I have the audio. I have the video of you telling your mistress how predictable I am. And now, I have you standing half-naked in a hotel room while your pregnant wife stands right here."
Michael lunged forward, his hands outstretched in a desperate gesture of pacification. "Baby, please. Let's not make a scene. It was a mistake. A moment of weakness. Work stress—you know how brutal the Carter Residential acquisition has been..."
"Don't touch me," Sarah snapped, stepping back so sharply that Michael froze. "If your hands come within an inch of me, I won't just file for divorce. I'll call the board of directors at Carter Residential and play this exact video for them during tomorrow morning's investor briefing."
Lily found her voice, though it trembled violently. "Sarah, please! Don't ruin things! We didn't mean to hurt you—"
"Shut up, Lily," Sarah said, her gaze turning to her former best friend with such pure contempt that Lily physically flinched. "You helped me pick out my wedding dress. You held my hand when I thought I was miscarrying in our second month. You sat at my table, ate my food, and plotted behind my back. You are both dead to me."
Sarah reached into her coat pocket, pulling out a thick manila envelope that smelled faintly of the rosemary-scented kitchen she had just left.
May you like
"What is that?" Michael whispered, his eyes locked onto the envelope as if it were a loaded weapon.
"Your Thanksgiving gift," Sarah replied softly. "Happy Thanksgiving, Michael."
