Chapter 18 - The Ultimate ConfrontationBack in the magnificent twenty-third-floor penthouse, Sarah stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, watching the city lights twinkle beneath a starry autumn sky.

Maya was fast asleep in her nursery, safe, loved, and surrounded by a family that was stronger and purer than ever.
Her phone chimed. A secure notification from her lead attorney: “All Apex Holdings assets have been successfully liquidated and transferred back into the primary family trust. Total recovery: $12.4 million. Michael Carter’s federal sentencing hearing has been finalized for next Tuesday. The judge is looking at fifteen years without parole.”
Sarah let out a long, slow breath, feeling the final weight of the past year lift completely from her shoulders.
Suddenly, her private intercom buzzed.
"Ms. Vance? There's a visitor downstairs in the lobby claiming to be an emergency representative from the federal penitentiary. He says Michael Carter has requested an urgent, final meeting with you before his sentencing."
Sarah looked down at the glittering Manhattan skyline, a calm, empowered smile touching her lips.
"Tell the lobby security to relay a message to him," Sarah said smoothly into the intercom.
