Chapter 15 - The Unexpected AllyBack in Manhattan, Sarah's life was moving at a breathtaking pace of success and personal redemption. Carter Residential had officially rebranded as Vance-Carter Properties, focusing on sustainable urban housing developments that honored her father’s original founding vision.

On a rainy Tuesday afternoon, Sarah sat in her expansive corner office on the fortieth floor, reviewing architectural blueprints with her senior project director.

"The downtown Brooklyn portfolio is officially closed, Ms. Vance," her director reported, sliding a final signature ledger across her desk. "Every single asset that Michael attempted to siphon has been successfully recovered and reinvested into our community housing initiative."

"Excellent work," Sarah smiled, signing her name with a flourish of her fountain pen.

Just as the director gathered her files and headed for the door, Sarah’s executive assistant buzzed through the intercom.

"Ms. Vance? There’s a visitor in the lobby insisting on seeing you. She says her name is Jessica Vance... wait, no, Jessica Miller."

Sarah frowned. "Jessica Miller? I don't know any Jessica Miller."

"She says she’s Michael’s cousin. And she has information regarding another hidden asset that the federal investigators missed."

Sarah’s eyes narrowed. "Send her up."

Five minutes later, a young woman in her mid-twenties stepped into the office. She looked nervous, twisting a cheap leather handbag between her fingers, bearing a striking resemblance to Michael's sharp jawline and blonde hair.

"Thank you for seeing me, Sarah," Jessica said quietly, standing near the door as if expecting to be thrown out at any moment. "I know I have no right to be here. But... I couldn't let my uncle and cousin keep destroying your family without making it right."
