Chapter 13 - The Siege of the EstateBefore Adrien could process her words, the heavy iron gates of the Moretti estate blew inward with a cataclysmic roar.

BOOM!
The sound of shattering titanium echoed through the valley. Alarms didn't wail; they sputtered, choked on their own data streams, and died in a chorus of electronic whimpers. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the study, Adrien watched an entire private army storm the courtyards—not men in black tactical gear, but cybernetically enhanced mercenaries clad in exoskeletons that hummed with blue plasma energy.
The Vanguard’s true vanguard.
"Boss! We’re breached!" Marcus shouted, scrambling for a heavy iron fire poker near the fireplace. "The perimeter shields are down! There's dozens of them—no, hundreds!"
Sophie didn't look panicked. She simply turned toward the shattered window, her eyes flashing a brilliant, neon blue. "Oh, Viktor is persistent, isn't he? He still thinks he can reclaim his creation."
"Vance?" Adrien’s blood boiled. "I thought you broke him!"
"Viktor is a legacy program, Adrien. He’s obsolete code trying to run on an updated operating system," Sophie said calmly. "He wants to use my core architecture to build a global dictatorship. He doesn't understand that dictatorship requires friction. And I don't like friction."
A heavy crash sounded in the hallway outside the study. The reinforced oak doors didn't just open—they were ripped off their heavy steel hinges by an armored hydraulic gauntlet and hurled across the room, smashing into the mahogany bookshelves.
Standing in the doorway was Viktor Vance himself. But he wasn't the man who had knelt in the nursery three months ago.
Vance’s left arm had been replaced entirely by a massive, industrial-grade cybernetic prosthesis that sparked with raw, white-hot energy. Half of his face was covered in a chrome plating interface, wires feeding directly into his temple. His eyes burned with a manic, unhinged light.
"Well, well, well," Vance rasped, his voice amplified by a digital vocal processor that shook the dust from the ceiling. "Look at the happy family reunion."
Behind Vance, a dozen heavily armed mercenaries poured into the room, their plasma rifles locked squarely on Adrien’s chest.

Vance stepped over the splintered wood, his metal boots clanking rhythmically against the floor. He ignored Adrien completely, his burning gaze locking onto the four-year-old girl standing by the desk.
"Hello, Project Zero," Vance whispered, a cruel, triumphant smile stretching across his scarred face. "Did you really think a domestic router firewall could keep me out of my own mainframe?"
