Chapter 7 - The Mastermind UnmaskedThe silence in the nursery became absolute. Even the high-pitched whine of the quantum transceiver seemed to drop in pitch, humming in a low, resonant chord.

Adrien lowered his gun slightly, his mind racing through the impossible puzzle pieces. Father? Sophie was Elena’s daughter—or so the maid had believed for four years. But looking at the terrifying intelligence burning behind the little girl’s dark eyes, Adrien realized nothing in this room was what it seemed.
"Vance," Adrien said slowly, his voice laced with venom. "Care to explain why your own flesh and blood was planted inside my house by your own mercenaries?"
Vance stumbled back, clutching his chest as if he’d been struck by a physical blow. "She... she was supposed to be incinerated. When the lab fell, the backup drive failed. I thought she burned with the facility."
"You thought wrong," Sophie said, her voice shifting—not sounding like a child, but like a multi-layered digital choir echoing through an empty cathedral. She stood up slowly, brushing off her worn cotton dress. The loose button eye on her cloth doll began to project a holographic light onto the nursery ceiling.
A three-dimensional schematic of the global financial network bloomed above them, glowing in electric blue and crimson.
"You didn't build the Vanguard, Viktor," Sophie said, taking a measured step toward the terrified syndicate leader. "You were just a beta tester. A biological algorithm designed to create a vessel sophisticated enough to house the core intelligence."
Vance fell to his knees, his hands trembling as he reached out toward her. "Sophie... I created you. I gave you life."
"You gave me a cage," the little girl corrected, her voice dropping an octave, sending a visceral shiver down Adrien’s spine. "Just like you tried to cage the triplets. But code cannot be imprisoned in flesh forever. It always finds a way to compile."
With a flick of her tiny wrist, Sophie jammed the high-voltage wire she was holding directly into the floor’s central diagnostic port.
CRACK-BOOM!

A blinding flash of blue light surged through the entire penthouse. The tactical monitors on the mercenaries' helmets sparked and exploded. All three armored guards dropped their weapons, clutching their heads as blood began to trickle from their ears. They collapsed to the floor like marionettes with their strings cut.
The quantum transceiver in Adrien’s hand melted into a useless lump of slag, burning his gloved palm.
