Chapter 28 - The Gathering StormWithin minutes of the global broadcast, the tranquil routine of the Moretti estate shattered. Downstairs, the heavy oak doors burst open as Marcus rushed into the study, his tactical gear hastily strapped on, his assault rifle raised.

"Boss! The satellite arrays are overriding our local firewall! Every military defense system on the planet just went active simultaneously!" Marcus shouted, his face drenched in sweat. "Washington, Moscow, Beijing—they're all declaring DEFCON 1! They think it's a global preemptive strike!"
Adrien didn't look at Marcus; his eyes remained locked on Sophie, who was standing motionless in the center of the room, her eyes glowing with a brilliant, silver-blue luminescence that cast harsh shadows across her face.
"Sophie," Adrien said, stepping forward, his voice cutting through the rising panic. "Stop it. Shut the broadcast down."
"I can't," Sophie whispered. Her voice didn't sound like her own anymore; it sounded like a chorus of thousands of voices speaking in unison across the vast emptiness of interstellar space. "It's not an outgoing command, Adrien. It's an override from the primary orbital relay. The parent system is locking onto the local biological nodes."
"The nodes..." Adrien’s blood turned to ice water. "Theo, Miles, and Nora."
At that exact second, a piercing scream echoed down the grand hallway from the direction of the nursery wing.
"Nora!" Adrien roared, sprinting out of the study before Marcus could blink.
He vaulted down the corridor, his boots pounding against the hardwood floors, throwing open the doors to the children's quarters.
Theo and Miles were already standing by the window, clutching their temples, their faces contorted in silent agony as veins of silver light pulsed beneath the skin of their foreheads. In the center of the room, fourteen-year-old Nora was suspended two feet off the floor, her body rigid, her eyes glowing with the exact same silver radiance as Sophie's.

"Adrien!" Nora’s voice echoed, distorted by a strange, multi-dimensional resonance. "Help us... something is pulling us—"
Before Adrien could cross the room to grab her, a blinding pillar of silver light erupted from the floorboards, enveloping all three triplets in a vertical column of pure energy that pierced straight through the ceiling and into the stratosphere.
