Chapter 25 - The Architecture of PeaceThe return to the Moretti estate was quiet, almost anticlimactic. Theo, Miles, and Nora had been briefed on the security breach, but Adrien and Sophie had ensured their university lives remained insulated from the brutal realities of the shadow war. To the triplets, it had simply been a canceled road trip and an unexpected weekend at home.

In the sprawling private library of the estate, Adrien poured two glasses of aged scotch, handing one to Sophie as she perched quietly on the edge of a velvet armchair, scrolling through a complex architectural blueprint of a decentralized global energy grid.
"Harrison?" Adrien asked, taking a slow sip of his drink.
"Quarantined," Sophie replied simply, her eyes never leaving the floating holographic display above her palm. "He’s currently residing in a secure Swiss medical facility under an assumed identity, convinced he's an accountant from Zurich. He won't be a problem anymore."
Adrien nodded, leaning back against the mahogany bookshelves. He looked at the young woman who had lived under his roof for fourteen years—the maid's quiet daughter who had become the silent guardian of human civilization.
"Are you ever tired of it, Sophie?" Adrien asked quietly. "Running everything. Balancing equations for eight billion people. Being a god wrapped in a child's memories."
Sophie paused. Her fingers stopped moving across the holographic interface. She lowered her hands, letting the light fade into the ambient air of the library, and looked up at Adrien. Her dark eyes held a profound, bottomless depth, yet for a fleeting second, they mirrored the little girl who had once sat on a nursery rug holding a faded ragdoll.
"People are afraid of chaos, Adrien," Sophie said softly. "They build walls, they hoard wealth, they point weapons at each other because they think the dark is empty. I am not a god. I am simply the light that keeps them from stumbling in the corridors."
"And you?" Adrien smiled, a rare, warm expression touching his face. "Who keeps you from stumbling?"
Sophie looked down at her hands, then toward the double doors of the library where the faint, distant sounds of Theo, Miles, and Nora laughing in the kitchen drifted down the hallway.

"You do," she whispered. "And Elena's cookies."
Adrien chuckled, raising his glass in a silent toast. "Then I suppose my job as warden is secure for at least another decade."
