Chapter 13 - THE STOLEN BLUEPRINT

Back at the Carter headquarters, Lily was playing a high-stakes game of hide-and-seek with Mr. Bear under the massive mahogany boardroom table while James was locked in an emergency security briefing. Lily’s sharp green eyes caught a glint of silver light reflecting off the floor vent near the executive vault.

Being small, nimble, and infinitely curious, she crawled over, pushed the loose vent cover open, and peered inside.

A pair of polished black leather shoes stood just inches away. A man’s voice whispered into a secure satellite phone.

"The girl has the second key. Once we eliminate the mother, the inheritance defaults to the Zurich trust."

Lily didn't scream. She remembered the men in the hospital. She pressed Mr. Bear tight against her chest, crept backward into the shadows of the corridor, and tugged on the hem of James’s tailored trousers just as he stepped out of the meeting.

"Daddy," she whispered, her voice trembling. "The bad man with the shiny shoes is inside the walls."
