Chapter 10 - THE NEW DAWN

The autumn wind whipped down Fifth Avenue, rustling the golden leaves of Central Park as a sleek black town car pulled up to the curb outside the grand cathedral.

The church bells were ringing—not for a funeral, and not for a corporate hostile takeover, but for a wedding five years in the making.

Inside the vestry, James adjusted his black silk bowtie with hands that were remarkably steady. The door opened, and his motherly figure of a childhood nanny stepped inside, smiling broadly.

"They’re ready for you, boss," Marcus said, grinning from ear to ear as he acted as the best man.

James took a deep breath and walked out to the altar.

The organ swelled with a timeless, triumphant melody. And then the oak doors at the back of the cathedral opened wide.

There walked Rebecca, radiant in a cascading ivory gown, her green eyes shining with unshed tears. But walking right beside her, scattering white rose petals down the long aisle with absolute concentration and a pink bow in her hair, was Lily.

As they reached the altar, Lily looked up at James, whispered loudly into the quiet church, "Mr. Bear says you look handsome, Daddy!" and a wave of warm, genuine laughter rippled through the pews.

Richard Carter sat alone in the very last row of the chapel, stripped of his title, his fortune reduced to a modest pension, and his legacy forever rewritten by the granddaughter he once tried to cast into the shadows. He didn't look bitter; he just looked defeated.

James took Rebecca’s hand in his, feeling the warmth of her palm against his skin. The past was buried, the lies were dead, and the future was entirely theirs.

As the priest smiled and began the ceremony, James leaned down to whisper in Rebecca’s ear, "Best investment of my life."
