"Adopted sister," Victoria corrected with a sneer, her diamond earrings catching the cold fluorescent light. "While dear little Eleanor was playing the innocent victim and hiding as a cleaning lady, she conveniently forgot to mention that our father left his entire offshore trust to her—money stolen from Sterling Financial twenty years ago!"
Grace stepped forward, protecting Chloe behind James. "That money was dirty, Victoria! Father died in prison because of it! I wanted nothing to do with it, so I hid the access keys!"
"And because you hid them, the syndicate came after ME!" Victoria shouted, her calm facade cracking into pure rage. "They tortured me! They took everything from me! And now, Edward Sterling—who isn't dead, but living off syndicate money—wants those keys. Give them to me, Eleanor, or your daughter pays the price!"
Before Grace could respond, James stepped firmly between Victoria’s guards and the women he loved.
"She doesn't have the keys, Victoria," James said calmly, holding up a small black leather journal he had retrieved from his father's old safe years ago. "Because my father never gave them to her. He hid them inside the one place Richard never thought to look: the restaurant where Grace worked."
