Chapter 2 - THE SHADOW AT THE WINDOW"Who is this?" James hissed, walking toward the front windows, his body tense.

"You left the family business three years ago after your father’s 'accident,'" the voice replied with a chilling laugh. "You thought you could forfeit your billions and live like a ghost. But your uncle Richard wants your final voting shares, James. And if you don't sign them over by midnight, the press finds out that the famous James Sterling is harboring an illegal fugitive."
James froze. A fugitive? He turned slowly to look at Grace. She was watching her daughter eat, her hands wringing nervously, her eyes darting toward the street outside as if expecting the police to burst through the door at any second.
"What are you talking about?" James whispered into the phone.
"Ask your little cleaning lady why her real name is Eleanor Vance, and why the FBI has a warrant out for her arrest for a fifty-million-dollar bank fraud," the voice taunted before clicking off.
The line went dead. Outside, a black SUV with tinted windows rolled slowly past the restaurant, its headlights cutting through the falling snow.
James slipped his phone into his pocket and walked back to the booth. Grace looked up, catching his intense gaze.
"Grace," James said, keeping his tone dangerously calm. "Is there something you haven't told me?"
