Chapter 9 - THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICEBANG!
A gunshot shattered the air. The crowd screamed, scattering in utter terror.
Richard gasped, his eyes wide with shock. He dropped his gun, clutching his chest as he collapsed onto the stage. Behind him stood the Chief of Police, his service weapon drawn and smoking.
"Richard Sterling, you are under arrest!" police officers swarmed the stage, instantly tackling the fallen executive and slapping handcuffs onto his wrists.
James didn't even look at his uncle. He leaped over the stage barrier, kicked open the side room door, and pulled Grace into his arms as officers freed her and returned Chloe to her mother.
"It's over, Grace," James breathed, holding her tightly as Chloe wrapped her arms around both of their necks. "It's finally over. You're free."
Grace sobbed against his shoulder, relief washing over her in overwhelming waves. "Thank you... oh God, thank you, James."
Outside the hotel, snow was falling gently over the city. The media was already dubbing it the "Christmas Eve Miracle"—the exposure of a corporate monster and the salvation of an innocent family.
