Chapter 10 - THE UNEXPECTED TWISTIt was three months later. The corporate restructuring had been a massive success. The corrupt board members were facing federal indictments, the stock prices had surged by forty percent following our transparent audit disclosures, and I was officially installed as the youngest Chief Financial Officer in the firm’s history.

Evelyn and I sat together in her newly redesigned corner office at corporate headquarters, overlooking the sprawling skyline of the city as the afternoon sun cast long shadows across the mahogany floors.

The heavy oak office door was closed—but not locked.

My private executive assistant knocked twice before stepping inside, holding a thick manila folder stamped with confidential red seals.

"Excuse me, Mr. Cole, Ms. Vance," the assistant said, looking slightly nervous as she placed the folder on my desk. "There's... an unexpected development regarding the asset recovery from the former board's shell companies."

Evelyn raised an eyebrow, leaning back in her leather executive chair. "What kind of development, Claire?"

"Well," Claire hesitated, swallowing hard. "The primary shell company—the one holding the twelve million siphoned funds—wasn't registered under Richard Vance or Sterling's name. According to the international registry papers filed late last night... the majority shareholder and ultimate beneficiary of the entire slush fund was never on the board at all."

My heart skipped a beat. I flipped open the manila folder, my eyes scanning the legal beneficiary signature at the bottom of the document.

The blood drained entirely from my face.

The name on the line—the person who had secretly funded, engineered, and orchestrated the entire hostile takeover from the shadows to bankrupt the company and force a distress sale—wasn't Richard Vance.

It was my own father.

Chapter 13 - THE MIDNIGHT BROADCASTThe digital broadcasting studio on the top floor of corporate headquarters was usually dark and silent at this hour, but tonight it hummed with raw, electric energy. High-definition cameras were locked in position, focused directly on the anchor desk where Evelyn and I sat side-by-side under blinding studio lights.

Chapter 16 - THE REVENGE OF THE BROKEN EMPIREThe penthouse living room fell into a suffocating, dead silence. The papers scattered across the glass coffee table told a devastating story of corporate greed, legal manipulation, and a family destroyed by a ruthless merger executed decades ago by the previous administration of our firm—the very regime Evelyn had fought to reform.
