Chapter 16 - THE REVENGE OF THE BROKEN EMPIREThe penthouse living room fell into a suffocating, dead silence. The papers scattered across the glass coffee table told a devastating story of corporate greed, legal manipulation, and a family destroyed by a ruthless merger executed decades ago by the previous administration of our firm—the very regime Evelyn had fought to reform.

"You see?" my father whispered, his voice cracking with a lifetime of pent-up bitterness, his eyes locked onto mine. "I didn't want to hurt you, Austin. I wanted to use you to get inside the vault. I wanted to strip this company of every penny it's worth, just like they stripped us of everything when you were ten years old."

"You would have done the exact same thing to protect your chair," my father interrupted bitterly, straightening his coat. "Power doesn't care about history, Ms. Vance. It only cares about survival."

He turned his back on us, walking toward the private elevator doors at the end of the hall. He didn't look back. The elevator chime pinged softly, the doors slid open, and he vanished into the night, leaving behind a trail of cold ocean air and twenty years of unresolved generational warfare.
