Chapter 7 - THE AFTERMATH IN THE PENTHOUSEBy midnight, the ballroom chaos had dissolved into hushed whispers and flashing police lights outside the resort lobby. The board members were detained for questioning, and the federal investigators had secured all digital archives.

Back in the private penthouse suite high above the crashing coastal waves, the heavy oak door clicked shut—this time, locked from the inside by my own hand.
The room was dark, illuminated only by the faint, rhythmic amber glow of the harbor lighthouse sweeping across the floor. The heavy scent of salt and night-blooming jasmine drifted through the open terrace doors.
Evelyn stood by the glass railing, her back to me, slowly unpinning her hair as the dark silk locks tumbled down her shoulders. The rigid, untouchable chief executive was completely gone; in her place was a woman who had just survived a war and won.
"You realize," Evelyn said softly without turning around, "that your life as a simple senior analyst is officially over, Austin. After tonight, the board—what's left of it—will either promote you to Chief Financial Officer or demand your resignation out of sheer intimidation."
I walked slowly across the plush carpet until I was standing just inches behind her, feeling the warmth radiating from her skin. The electric pull that we had suppressed for months was no longer a secret buried under polished reports; it was a blazing fire.

Evelyn turned around slowly, her dark eyes flashing with a dangerous, playful heat. "Oh, Austin... your bonus hasn't even started yet."
