Chapter 15 - FATHER AND SON IN THE CROSSFIREMy father looked older, thinner, his silver hair unkempt, but the sharp, calculating gleam in his eyes hadn't faded an inch. He pushed past me without an invitation, his heavy wet trench coat dripping onto the pristine hardwood floor of the penthouse.

"You absolute fool, Austin," my father spat out, slamming his briefcase down onto the coffee table with a loud thud. "You just destroyed thirty years of strategic positioning on national television! Do you have any idea what you've unraveled?"
Evelyn stepped out from the inner hallway, her presence freezing the temperature in the room instantly. She didn't flinch; she walked with the absolute authority of an apex predator looking at a cornered mouse.
"Your positioning was illegal, Arthur," Evelyn said coldly, her voice cutting like a razor. "And your son just saved this firm from being plundered by a criminal syndicate disguised as a family legacy."
My father let out a harsh, bitter laugh, turning his gaze from Evelyn to me. "Family legacy? You think I did this for greed, Austin? Look at these files!" He snapped his briefcase open and threw a thick sheaf of yellowed medical and legal documents across the coffee table. "Read them! Every single debt, every single hospital bill, every single bankruptcy notice—they weren't fake. They were real. I was drowning because they took everything from us twenty years ago!"

I picked up the top paper, my eyes scanning the faded institutional stamp. My breath hitched. The name on the bankruptcy liquidation notice from two decades ago wasn't just my father's—it was the parent company of the very corporation Evelyn now ran.
The corporate empire we were defending had systematically destroyed my family’s original business when I was a child. My father hadn't staged a random corporate takeover; he had spent twenty years planning a meticulous, generational revenge.
