Chapter 11 - The Inheritance Clause

Federal Marshals transferred Dominic Ward from the municipal holding cell to a maximum-security federal penitentiary three states away before sunrise. He arrived in a high-risk transport van, stripped of his custom suits, his gold watch, and every vestige of the lifestyle he had bullied his way into maintaining.

Back at the Sterling estate, Victoria received a hand-delivered envelope bearing the official seal of the federal bankruptcy court. Inside was a sweeping asset forfeiture decree detailing the liquidation of Dominic’s corporate shell companies, his offshore accounts in the Caymans, and his remaining real estate holdings.

Clara sat across the kitchen island, sipping her morning tea while watching her mother review the documents.

“His attorneys filed a final emergency motion this morning,” Clara said softly, her voice carrying a trace of lingering disbelief. “They’re trying to claim that the primary residential estate was purchased under a pre-nuptial agreement protecting his personal assets.”

Victoria didn't look up from the papers. She traced her finger down a line of legal text before dipping her fountain pen into a glass inkwell.

“That pre-nuptial agreement was contingent upon full financial disclosure,” Victoria replied calmly, her pen gliding across the paper with fluid precision. “Dominic concealed over twelve million dollars in illicit narcotics revenue through those exact properties. Under federal racketeering statutes, a fraudulent contract is legally void from its inception. The estate reverts entirely to you as restitution for damages.”

Clara stared at the legal seal, realizing that the golden cage Dominic had built to trap her was now legally, irrevocably hers.
