Chapter 7 - The Confrontation in Court

The federal courtroom was packed to capacity by the time the bailiff’s resonant voice rang out: “All rise for the Honorable Judge Victoria Sterling!”

The heavy oak doors at the back of the courtroom opened, and Dominic Ward was led in by two federal marshals. His tailored designer suit was gone, replaced by standard orange inmate garb that clashed violently with his arrogant posture. As he stepped toward the defense table, his eyes locked onto the raised bench.

There sat Judge Victoria Sterling.

No longer the grieving mother in a quiet kitchen, she was the absolute embodiment of federal law. Her black robe fell in crisp folds, her expression cold, impassoned, and utterly unyielding.

Dominic stopped dead in his tracks, a wave of profound realization crashing over him. The woman sitting behind the bench wasn’t just protecting her daughter; she was the apex predator of the federal judicial system, and he had willingly walked right into her domain.

“Be seated,” Victoria’s voice commanded the courtroom, echoing with chilling authority.

Dominic slowly took his seat beside a public defender appointed after his private counsel was arrested. His hands trembled against the wooden table as he realized the terrifying truth: money, charm, and corrupt cops couldn't save him here.

“The court will now address the arraignment of United States versus Dominic Ward,” Victoria announced, her gaze fixing squarely on the man who had terrorized her daughter. “The charges include racketeering, wire fraud, extortion, and interstate domestic violence. How does the defendant plead?”
