Chapter 17 - The Final Sentencing Hearing

Three months after the initial raid, the federal courthouse was once again packed to capacity for the sentencing of Marcus Vance and the remaining syndicate executives.

Dominic Ward was brought in via video feed from the maximum-security penitentiary, his face displayed on a high-definition monitor mounted above the defense table. His hair was cropped short, his skin sallow, his expression one of hollow, permanent defeat as he stared at the screen showing his former co-conspirators sitting in handcuffs.

Victoria Sterling entered the courtroom, her black judicial robe sweeping behind her with effortless dignity. She took her seat at the bench, looking down at the men who had built an empire on intimidation, corruption, and violence.

“The court has reviewed the final presentence investigation reports, financial restitution audits, and cooperative witness testimonies,” Victoria announced, her voice echoing through the silent room.

She turned her gaze directly toward the video monitor displaying Dominic’s defeated face.

“Marcus Vance, for international money laundering and racketeering, you are sentenced to thirty years in federal custody. To the remaining co-conspirators, your sentences reflect the severity of your betrayal of public trust.”

She paused, striking the gavel once with absolute, final authority.

“The syndicates that operated within this district are permanently dissolved. Case closed.”
