Chapter 21 - Shadows Behind Bars

In the maximum-security federal penitentiary three states away, Dominic Ward stared at the peeling white paint of his cell ceiling. The winter chill leaked through the reinforced concrete walls, turning his breath into faint wisps of fog. His cellmate, a convicted bank robber serving a life sentence, didn't bother speaking to him. Dominic had spent the last five years trying to buy influence among the inmates, but his money was gone, his accounts frozen by federal decree, and his name meant nothing in a concrete box. The guards didn't care about his designer past, and the inmates despised men who preyed on the vulnerable. He was completely, irrevocably erased.
