Chapter 4 - The Safehouse Revelation

Back at the Sterling estate, the morning sun was just beginning to pierce through the heavy storm clouds, casting a golden hue over the old brick steps.

Clara walked down the grand staircase, wrapped in a warm blanket, her face still bearing the faint purple bruise from Dominic’s assault. She found her mother standing in the kitchen, brewing a fresh pot of coffee, looking as calm and composed as if she were preparing for a routine courtroom docket.

“Mom... the agents are downstairs,” Clara whispered, her voice trembling slightly as she clutched the blanket closer to her chest. “I heard them on the radio. They raided Dominic's house. They took him.”

Victoria turned around, her expression softening instantly as she walked over and handed her daughter a steaming mug of chamomile tea.

“It’s over, sweetheart,” Victoria said gently, kissing Clara’s forehead. “He’ll never lay a hand on you again. Nor will he ever threaten this family.”

“How?” Clara asked, tears welling in her eyes once more. “How did you move so fast? Everyone told me he was untouchable.”

Victoria smiled faintly, walking over to the kitchen island and tapping the edge of a thick manila folder resting on the counter.

“Because long before he became your husband, Dominic Ward was a blip on the federal radar,” Victoria explained. “He thought his wedding ring gave him immunity. He thought my status as a mother made me weak. He didn't realize that I had been building a RICO case against his entire syndicate for eighteen months. Your escape tonight just gave me the final piece of probable cause I needed to sign the warrants early.”
