Chapter 2 - The Sound of Shattered Glass

At 4:30 AM precisely, the serenity of Dominic Ward’s sprawling waterfront mansion was shattered by the concussive boom of flashbangs.
Dominic bolted upright in his king-sized bed, his instincts honed by years of illicit operations. He reached for the tactical Sig Sauer on his nightstand, but before his fingers could wrap around the grip, his bedroom door was blown completely off its hinges. Splintered wood rained across the imported Persian rug as heavily armored federal agents swarmed the room, lasers painting his chest in a lattice of red dots.
“Federal agents! Stay down!”
“Do you know who I am?” Dominic roared, lunging out of bed, his face contorted with narcissistic rage. “I own this town! The chief of police answers to me!”
Special Agent Miller stepped through the smoke, a cold smile playing on his lips as he slapped cold steel handcuffs onto Dominic’s wrists with brutal efficiency.

“You did own the town, Mr. Ward,” Miller said, shoving Dominic face-first onto the mattress. “Right up until Judge Sterling signed your federal indictment an hour ago. You’re under arrest for racketeering, international smuggling, and obstruction of justice.”
Dominic froze. The name hit him like a physical blow. Sterling. Not just a grieving mother-in-law. The federal judge. The architect of his entire downfall. As they dragged him through the grand foyer in his silk pajamas, past the expensive art collection he had built on blood and extortion, Dominic realized the nightmare had only just begun.
