Chapter 5 - The Confession Room

In the cold, sterile interrogation room of the federal holding facility, Dominic Ward sat slamming his cuffed hands against the steel table.
His expensive silk pajamas were wrinkled, his hair disheveled, the picture of polished corporate arrogance completely shattered. The door swung open, and Special Agent Miller walked in, dropping a thick file onto the table before taking a seat.
“I want my lawyer!” Dominic snarled, his eyes bloodshot. “I want to make a phone call! You have no idea who my associates are—they will bury you, your family, and your career!”
“Your associates are currently being rounded up in three different states,” Miller replied calmly, opening the file to reveal high-resolution photographs of cargo manifests, bank transfers routed through Cayman Island shell companies, and audio transcripts of Dominic threatening local officials.
Dominic’s breath hitched. He stared at the documents, his bravado rapidly evaporating as he recognized the undeniable proof of his crimes.
“And as for your lawyer,” Miller continued smoothly, “he was arrested thirty minutes ago at his law office for money laundering and conspiracy. You’re completely isolated, Mr. Ward.”

“Get me the judge,” Dominic whispered, his voice cracking with sudden desperation. “Get me Judge Sterling. Let me talk to her. I’m family—she has to listen.”
Miller let out a dry, humorless chuckle. “That’s the funniest part, Ward. Judge Sterling doesn’t negotiate with domestic abusers or cartel bosses. And she certainly doesn't accept family discount codes.”
