Chapter 14 - The Gala of the Century

Chloe, Mia, and Sophie—now dressed in matching emerald-green velvet dresses with delicate silk bows—sat at the VIP family table, giggling as Martha handed them sparkling apple cider in crystal flutes.
Elena stood at the podium, looking radiant beneath the warm spotlight. Her voice resonated through the state-of-the-art sound system, calm, magnetic, and completely commanding.
"Tonight, we celebrate survival," Elena said, her eyes scanning the sea of powerful politicians, international investors, and elite socialites. "We celebrate the truth that no amount of money, power, or betrayal can ever extinguish a mother's will to protect her children."

Applause thundered through the hall, deafening and sincere. But as Elena stepped down from the stage, walking toward her daughters, her sharp instincts—honed by months of mortal danger—flared instantly.
The air pressure in the grand hall shifted. The ambient chatter of the crowd seemed to distort, dropping an octave.
