Before Vance could pull her away from the terminal, the steel doors behind them slammed shut with a deafening, metallic crash. The pneumatic locks engaged simultaneously, sealing the sub-basement airtight.
Warning: Oxygen depletion sequence initiated, an automated robotic voice echoed through the emergency speaker system. Evacuation impossible.
The tactical guards raised their assault rifles, firing point-blank at the reinforced hinges of the door, but the titanium alloy didn't even scratch. The air pressure in the room began to drop rapidly, sucking the warmth from the space and turning every breath into a plume of white frost.
"The ventilation shaft!" Vance shouted, pointing upward toward a narrow utility grate near the ceiling.
