Chapter 5 - The Trap Springs

How? The question tore through Grant’s mind like a physical blow. He had watched her flatline. He had signed the papers.

The reality was far more calculated than Grant could have ever imagined. Three months prior, Elena had discovered that Grant was systematically draining the Holloway family trust to fund a secret offshore shell company designed to bankrupt her family’s legacy holdings. Anticipating his ruthless nature, she hadn't just hired a divorce lawyer; she had hired federal forensic investigators and staged her own medical collapse using a controlled metabolic suppressant provided by a loyal contact within the intelligence sector.

The "doctor" who had emerged from the ICU? A federal agent undercover.

The signature on the divorce papers? Validated under federal surveillance as an admission of abandonment during a life-threatening medical emergency, instantly triggering an ironclad prenuptial penalty clause that transferred 100% of Holloway Enterprises' voting shares directly into Elena’s sole custody.

"Turn the car around," Grant hissed, his voice losing its polished composure, his face turning a sickly shade of pale as panic clawed at his chest. "Turn this car around right now, Thomas!"

"I can't do that, Mr. Holloway," Thomas said smoothly, pressing a button on the dashboard that automatically locked all four doors from the central mainframe. At the same time, the privacy partition between the front and back seats rolled down.

Thomas pulled off his chauffeur cap and peeled away a prosthetic latex hairline, revealing the sharp, unblinking eyes of Special Agent Vance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s white-collar crime division.

"Your flight to Zurich has been canceled, Grant," the agent said, holding up a pair of heavy steel handcuffs that caught the dim light of the dashboard. "And your wife would like a word about your signature."
