Chapter 12 - THE PRISON CELL ENCOUNTERDeep within the high-security federal penitentiary in Marion, the air smelled of floor wax, rust, and institutional despair.

Grant Waverly sat on the edge of his steel bunk, staring blankly at the concrete wall. His orange jumpsuit hung off a frame that had grown skeletal over the past twelve months. The golden boy of Waverly Pacific—the man who once commanded boardrooms with a casual wave of his hand—was now just inmate number 48921.
The heavy steel door clanked open. A guard stepped aside, and a woman in an immaculate, cream-colored Chanel suit stepped into the narrow visiting booth.
Grant looked up, his bloodshot eyes widening in disbelief. "Victoria? What... what are you doing here?"
Victoria Sterling stepped forward, her heels clicking sharply against the linoleum floor. She didn't sit down. She looked down at him with an expression of profound, chilling calculation.
"I'm not here to hold your hand, Grant," Victoria said, her voice hard as glass. "I'm here because Claire Bennett humiliated my father, stripped our family of its steel holdings, and turned this city into her personal kingdom. And you—you let her do it because you couldn't control your own wife."
Grant flinched, a flash of his old arrogance sparking in his eyes. "You don't know what she's capable of. She's ruthless—she planned the whole audit, she weaponized the federal courts—"
"Quiet!" Victoria snapped, leaning over the stainless-steel table until her face was inches from his. "I don't care about your excuses, Grant. I care about revenge. My legal team has injected five million dollars into your appellate fund on one strict condition: the moment you are out on a technicality, or if we find a loophole in her prenuptial asset freeze, you sign over every remaining voting proxy of Waverly Pacific to my holding company. I will destroy her publicly, professionally, and utterly. And you will watch it happen."
Grant stared at the woman standing before him. For a split second, he saw the exact same cold, calculating ambition he had once loved—and then feared—in Claire.

"Do we have a deal, Grant?" Victoria whispered, holding out a manicured hand.
Grant slowly raised his trembling fingers and shook her hand, sealing a pact born of pure, unadulterated malice.
