Chapter 15 - THE STERLING COLLAPSEThe fall of Victoria Sterling was swift, brutal, and entirely public.

Less than forty-eight hours after Grant’s pathetic late-night intrusion, Arthur Vance’s legal team dropped a nuclear bomb on the Chicago financial district. Working in tandem with federal investigators, Arthur released a comprehensive forensic report proving that Victoria Sterling had not only illegally funneled millions into Grant’s appellate defense fund, but she had also been embezzling from her father’s former steel pension funds to cover her own high-stakes stock market losses.

By sunrise, federal agents had raided Victoria’s Gold Coast mansion. Live news helicopters hovered overhead as she was led out in handcuffs, shielding her face with an expensive leather handbag while reporters shouted questions about her collusion with Grant Waverly.

Sitting in my corner office at Bennett Global, watching the live broadcast on my wall-mounted screen, Melanie walked in and placed a freshly brewed cup of black coffee on my desk.

"The board of Sterling Holdings just voted unanimously to liquidate their remaining assets," Melanie reported, a triumphant smile touching her lips. "And guess who just stepped in as the primary corporate buyer at a fraction of their market value?"

I took a slow sip of my coffee, looking out at the panoramic view of the city where I had once been trapped in a golden cage.

"Bennett Global," I answered softly.

"Bennett Global," Melanie confirmed. "The entire city is yours, Claire. From the hotels to the steel mills, your family's legacy isn't just restored—it's multiplied."

My phone buzzed on the desk. It was an encrypted notification from the federal penitentiary warden.

I turned my phone face down, letting the screen go dark. The ghosts of my past were finally locked away where they belonged.
