Chapter 16 - THE NEW DAWNTwo years had passed since the night my maternity dress was torn in front of two hundred guests at the Bellmont Hotel.

The memory no longer carried the sting of humiliation; it felt like a distant scar from a battle I had decisively won. Today, my life was defined by things Grant could never comprehend: true freedom, unyielding power, and the pure, infectious laughter of my three-year-old son, Alexander, who was currently running across the manicured lawns of our private estate in Lake Geneva.

I stood on the stone veranda, wearing a simple white linen sundress, watching Alexander chase a golden retriever across the grass.

Melanie walked up beside me, handing me a glass of fresh lemonade. "You know, looking at you now, nobody would ever guess you used to hide behind a CEO's shadow."

"I never hid behind him, Melanie," I said, smiling as I took the glass. "I was just waiting for the right moment to step into the light."

Suddenly, a deep, warm voice spoke from the doorway behind us.

"And a magnificent light it is."

I turned around. Standing in the doorway was Julian Vance’s nephew—Julian Jr., a brilliant international corporate strategist who had helped me navigate Bennett Global’s European acquisitions over the past year. He wasn't like Grant. He didn't demand obedience, seek control, or hide behind toxic pride. He respected my intellect, matched my ambition, and loved my son as his own.

Julian walked over, wrapping his arms gently around my waist from behind and pressing a soft kiss to my temple.

"Dinner is ready, Madame CEO," Julian whispered with a warm smile. "And Alexander is already demanding his third helping of dessert."

I leaned back against his chest, feeling the absolute, unbreakable peace of a life built entirely on my own terms.

"Let's go," I said, taking his hand.
