Chapter 11 - Whispers in the DarkThe ink on the corporate restructuring documents was barely dry when the first anonymous threat arrived at our penthouse. It wasn't sent via email or slipped under the door; it was a single, heavy silver bullet left resting precisely in the center of our Italian marble foyer table. Engraved along its side were the initials V.K.

I stared down at the cold metal while the morning sun poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows. "Valentin Koslov," I said quietly, tasting the name like ash.
Alexander walked up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist. His gaze darkened as he looked at the bullet, his chest vibrating with a suppressed, lethal fury. "The Bratva’s remaining foothold in the North District. I thought we had an understanding."

"Understandings don't mean much when men like Koslov realize they're bleeding territory," I replied, turning in his embrace to look up at him. "He thinks because Mason is in a federal penitentiary and Elena is gone, the Whitmore throne has a vacancy."
Alexander’s thumb traced the line of my jaw, his touch grounding yet charged with adrenaline. "Let him think whatever he wants, Emily. The moment he stepped onto our floor and left this message, he signed his own death warrant."
