Chapter 16 - The Ghost from New York"What is it?" Alexander asked instantly, catching the rigid shift in my posture. He pulled the phone from my hand, his dark eyes scanning the text message. The casual amusement vanished from his face, replaced by a sudden, dangerous intensity.

"Who is this?" I asked, my heart skipping a beat. "Is there someone above you?"
Alexander’s jaw tightened. "No one is above me in Chicago, Emily. But New York... New York is run by the Morosco family. And Julian Morosco is a ghost who hasn't stepped foot in the Midwest in a decade."
"Why would he care about us?"
"Because when we absorbed Koslov’s shipping lines, we unknowingly seized a port that belonged to New York’s syndicate pipeline," Alexander explained, pocketing his phone as he strode toward the penthouse elevator. "Julian doesn't send warning texts unless he's preparing to launch a full-scale war."
Back inside the penthouse, the atmosphere shifted from celebratory to tactical. Maps of Eastern seaboard trade routes covered our massive glass coffee table, alongside intelligence reports detailing New York's primary syndicate figures.
"We need to strike first," I said, leaning over the table, tracing a line between Chicago and Manhattan.

Alexander looked up, a rare flash of hesitation in his eyes. "New York is a different beast, Emily. It's not a local feud anymore. This could mean a continental war."
"Then we make sure we win it before it even starts," I replied coldly.
