Chapter 11 - The Secret Investor

The morning sun hit the glass facade of Vance Global Holdings, casting a sharp, blinding glare across the city. I was reviewing the quarterly logistics reports when Marcus walked into my office without knocking, his expression unusually grim.
"We have a complication, Elena," Marcus said, dropping a thick dossier onto my desk.
I didn't look up immediately. "Define complication. Did one of our European shipping routes hit a snag?"
"Worse," Marcus said, pulling out a chair and sitting down. "Someone is quietly buying up the distressed debt and shorted shares of Thorne Capital’s old shell companies on the secondary market. Whoever it is is moving with extreme discretion, routing funds through offshore trusts in the Cayman Islands."
That caught my attention. I closed the digital ledger and looked up. "Julian has no money left. His accounts were frozen, and he filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Who could possibly finance a hostile micro-buyout of a dead firm?"
Marcus slid a single photograph across the desk.
It was a picture of a man in his late fifties with cold, calculating eyes, stepping out of a private jet at Van Nuys Airport.
"Victor Vance-Sterling," Marcus read aloud from the file. "An estranged cousin from the European branch of our family. He was cut off by our grandfather thirty years ago for corporate espionage. And it looks like he’s decided to use Julian as a puppet to claw his way back into our portfolio."

I stared at the photograph, a slow, cold realization dawning on me. "Julian didn't just stumble into Chloe by accident. Victor orchestrated it from the background, positioning Julian to siphon our proprietary data before the divorce."
"Precisely," Marcus nodded. "And Victor just scheduled a public press conference for tomorrow morning. He claims Vance Global acquired its empire through fraudulent trust manipulation, and he’s filing an injunction to freeze your assets."
