Chapter 12 - The Pawn Reaches OutThat evening, as I stepped out of the Vance Tower into the underground executive garage, a figure stepped out from the shadows near my private car.

It was Julian.

He looked even worse than he had at the cafe. His cheap hoodie was stained, his eyes bloodshot and frantic. He lunged forward, but my security detail intercepted him instantly, pinning his arms behind his back against the concrete pillar.

"Elena! Wait! Please, just two minutes!" Julian screamed, struggling against the guards.

I signaled for the guards to release him. Julian stumbled forward, clutching his ribs, panting heavily.

"What do you want, Julian?" I asked coldly, standing beside my car door. "Did the parking attendant job not pay enough for your coffee?"

"I know about Victor," Julian blurted out, his voice shaking with fear. "Victor Sterling. He... he’s the one who backed my brokerage accounts years ago. He’s the one who told me to marry you, to get close to the trust deeds, to squeeze your family out!"

I narrowed my eyes. "You're just figuring this out now?"

"He promised me I’d keep the Bel Air house! He promised me half the global shipping empire!" Julian wept openly, falling to his knees on the cold concrete. "He’s going to destroy you tomorrow at the press conference, Elena. He has forged documents, fake witness testimonies... he’s going to ruin everything you built. But I can help you. I have the encryption keys to his offshore ledger on my phone."

I looked down at the man who once stood at the head of a mahogany table, laughing as he threw a crumpled dollar bill into my food.

"And why should I trust a single word you say, Julian?" I asked softly. "You sold me out for a twenty-four-year-old junior agent and a ten-million-dollar house."

Julian pulled a smashed smartphone from his pocket, holding it out with trembling hands. "Because he’s planning to throw me under the bus too. The moment he wins, he’s framing me for corporate embezzlement to take the fall. I’m already dead to him, Elena. Please."

I took the phone from his hands, handing it immediately to my head of security for data extraction.

"Get him a hotel room for the night," I instructed the guard. "And keep him locked inside. If Victor finds him before tomorrow morning, our trap won't work."
