Chapter 2 - The Red AlertsJulian’s thumb shook as he swiped frantically across his screen.

"What is this?" Julian muttered, his voice tightening. He clicked on a notification, his eyes darting across the text. "This... this has to be a system glitch. IT must be doing a server migration."
"Julian?" Beatrice asked, her smug smile faltering as she stared at her own glowing screen. "Why is my private wealth management app showing a zero balance? My liquidity account... it’s locked. It says Account Frozen Under Federal Financial Investigation."
Camilla dropped her phone as if it had burned her palm. It clattered against her plate, shattering a wine glass. "Mine too! Leo, look at your phone! Tell me you have money!"
Leo was already pale, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. "Every single account... my trust fund, my personal checking, my crypto wallet linked to the family office... they’re all frozen. Pending asset forfeiture verification."
Chloe stopped dangling the keys. Her brow furrowed in confusion as she looked around the table. "Wait, why are you guys panicking? It’s probably just a bank holiday glitch. Julian, fix it. Call your private banker at Apex Global."
Julian didn't answer her. He slowly raised his head, his eyes fixing on me with a look of sheer, unadulterated terror that I had never seen in him before.
It was the look of a predator who suddenly realized he had walked straight into a cage with the door locked from the outside.
"You," Julian choked out, pointing a trembling finger at me. "What did you do?"
I walked slowly around the table, stopping right behind Julian’s chair. I leaned down, my lips close to his ear, smelling the stale scent of panic sweat beneath his expensive cologne.
"You forgot to read the fine print of our prenuptial agreement, Julian," I said, my voice carrying clearly across the silent room. "And more importantly, you forgot whose family name actually owns the underlying title deed of this entire estate—and every single asset tied to Thorne Capital."
Julian stood up so fast his chair crashed backward onto the Persian rug.
"That’s impossible!" he roared, veins bulging in his neck. "The Thorne family name has controlled this trust for three generations! My grandfather built this legacy!"
"Your grandfather was a brilliant man," I agreed smoothly, straightening up. "He was also heavily leveraged in 1998 when the Asian financial crisis hit. He lost everything. Do you want to know who bailed him out, Julian? Who bought the original debt notes, consolidated the corporate umbrella, and quietly registered the master holding entity under an independent trust?"
I pulled a crisp, gold-embossed document from my portfolio and dropped it squarely onto the center of the table, right on top of their ruined dinner.
The Vance Global Holdings Master Trust.
"My grandfather," I said quietly. "Arthur Vance. And when we got married five years ago, my father didn't give me away to a rising star. He assigned me as the primary managing trustee of the entire Vance portfolio—including the equity backing Thorne Capital, every commercial building your firm manages, and yes... this exact ten-million-dollar estate."
The room went dead silent. Even the rain outside seemed to quiet down.
Chloe stood up, her red dress rustling angrily. "Julian, what is she talking about? Who is Arthur Vance? Is she making this up?"
Julian didn't look at her. He was staring at the gold seal on the document like a ghost.

"Vance..." Julian whispered, the name tasting like ash in his mouth. "Vance Industrial... the multi-billion-dollar shipping and infrastructure conglomerate out of Zurich... that Vance?"
"The very same," I smiled.
