Chapter 6 - The New Era at Thorne CapitalThree days later, the financial news headlines shook Wall Street to its core.

THORNE CAPITAL COLLAPSES UNDER EMERGENCY LIQUIDATION; EXECUTIVE BOARD DISMISSED.

I sat in the executive corner office on the forty-fifth floor of the Vance Tower in downtown Los Angeles. The morning sun poured through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, illuminating the sprawling skyline below.

Marcus walked into the office, holding a fresh cup of black coffee and a thick sheaf of legal briefs. He dropped them onto the sleek glass desk in front of me.

"Well, cousin," Marcus said with a faint smile. "The corporate restructuring is complete. Thorne Capital has been absorbed entirely into Vance Global Infrastructure. The assets have been recategorized, and Julian’s creditors are currently circling what's left of his personal accounts like sharks."

"What about Julian?" I asked, not looking up from my tablet.

"He tried to check into a luxury hotel in Beverly Hills on Tuesday, but his last remaining credit card was declined at the front desk," Marcus chuckled. "He's currently staying at a budget motel near LAX, trying to figure out how to sell his tailored suits on consignment just to pay for food."

"And Chloe?"

"Resigned in disgrace. Word travels fast in the brokerage world. No firm in the city will touch a junior agent involved in a multi-million-dollar corporate fraud investigation." Marcus leaned against the edge of the desk. "So, Madam Chairwoman, how does it feel to finally take the helm?"

I locked my tablet and leaned back in the ergonomic leather chair, looking out over the city that my family had helped build.

"It feels quiet," I said, a faint smile touching my lips. "And peace is much more expensive than a dollar."

Marcus laughed, checking his watch. "Good. Because the board meeting starts in ten minutes, and we have a billion-dollar shipping portfolio to reorganize."

As Marcus left the office, I walked over to the window, my reflection sharp and clear against the glass. The days of playing the quiet, obedient housewife were over.
