Chapter 23 - The Trap ClosesThe air in the conference room turned ice cold.

Henrik stood up so fast his chair screeched against the polished wood floor. His face lost all its color, the smooth, confident corporate exterior shattering instantly.
"This... this is a system error!" Henrik stammered, raising his hands defensively as two armed Vance Global security guards stepped silently out from the private antechamber doors, blocking every exit. "Aris, your software is malfunctioning! It’s a false positive!"
Dr. Aris Thorne calmly turned his laptop screen toward the center of the table, displaying a live packet-capture log.
"There is no false positive, Henrik," Aris said coldly. "For the past forty-eight hours, Terminal 04 has been systematically downloading encrypted cryptographic keys belonging to the Master Trust vault—the exact digital signature required to execute Victor Sterling’s 'Inheritance Clause' asset wipe."
Henrik stared at the screen, realization dawning that his game was up. The polished corporate mask melted away, revealing a desperate, cornered man.
"You think you’re so untouchable, don't you?" Henrik sneered, his voice rising in pitch and bitterness as he glared directly at me. "You think because your grandfather built this monolith that you own the world! Victor promised me fifty million euros and a seat on the board of the new restructured holding company if I delivered the cryptographic keys on your thirty-first birthday!"
I remained seated, my expression completely unchanged. I didn't raise my voice. I didn't slam my fist on the table. I simply watched him dismantle his own life with every word.
"Fifty million euros," I repeated quietly. "And you didn't stop to think why a man like Victor Sterling—who was already facing federal indictment for corporate espionage—would promise a mid-level director a fortune?"
Henrik faltered. "What... what do you mean?"
"Victor didn't plan to share the spoils with you, Henrik," I said, standing up slowly and buttoning my suit jacket. "The moment those cryptographic keys cleared the firewall, Victor’s automated shell protocols would have framed you for the entire multi-billion-dollar embezzlement scheme, while he vanished into a non-extradition tax haven. You weren't his partner, Henrik. You were his fall guy. Just like Julian."
Henrik staggered backward, his hip hitting the edge of the mahogany table. The weight of the truth crashed down upon him like a physical blow. He looked around the room, seeing only cold, unyielding silence from every director present.
"Take him down to the secure holding facility," I instructed the security operatives without a trace of emotion in my voice. "Hand his terminal logs and communication packets over to Interpol and the Swiss federal prosecutor's office. Ensure he receives a front-row seat to the judicial process."

"You can't do this!" Henrik screamed as the guards grabbed his arms, dragging him backward toward the double doors. "You’ll regret this! Victor’s network is bigger than you think!"
"My family built this empire on concrete and steel, Henrik," I said as the heavy doors clicked shut behind him. "Your network was built on sand."
