Chapter 24 - The Birthday of the TitanThree days later, the digital clock on my penthouse wall ticked past midnight.

October 24th.

My thirty-first birthday.

There were no champagne flutes filled with celebratory bubbles. No glittering socialites singing chorus lines in a rented Bel Air ballroom. No arrogant husbands standing at the head of a mahogany table, tossing one-dollar bills into truffle sauce while his family laughed like hyenas.

Instead, the penthouse was completely silent, save for the soft hum of the climate control system and the gentle patter of Alpine rain against the triple-paned glass windows.

Marcus walked into the living room holding a secure terminal tablet.

"Midnight sweep complete," Marcus reported, a faint smile touching the corners of his mouth. "All external servers are secure. The backdoor exploit Henrik installed has been completely neutralized and reverse-engineered. Interpol has raided Victor Sterling’s offshore proxy shell in Singapore. The threat is officially eradicated, Elena."

I walked over to the floor-to-ceiling glass window, looking out over the sleeping city of Zurich. My reflection was razor-sharp, steady, and entirely unafraid.

"Happy birthday, Madam Chairwoman," Marcus said softly, raising his cup of black coffee toward me in a quiet toast.

"Thank you, Marcus," I replied, taking a small sip of my own tea. "How is Julian holding up in the federal facility?"

Marcus chuckled dryly. "According to the warden’s weekly report, he spends most of his time in the prison library reading corporate law textbooks and trying to trade commissary items for extra phone privileges to call his mother—who reportedly hung up on him after he asked her to send him a bar of soap."
