Chapter 4 - The Ghost in the LedgersLater that night, after the twins had been safely tucked into a newly prepared nursery and Claire had finally fallen into a deep, exhausted sleep, Ethan sat alone in his private underground study.

The room was lit only by the green glow of his computer monitor.

"Marcus," Ethan spoke quietly into his encrypted desk intercom.

"I'm here, boss," Marcus’s voice crackled through the speaker. "I've run background sweeps on Claire's apartment complex during the period she described. You're not going to like what turned up on the traffic cameras."

"Talk to me," Ethan commanded, his fingers tapping rhythmically against the mahogany desk.

"Three unmarked vehicles registered under a shell corporation linked to the Sterling Group were parked outside her building twenty-four hours before she fled," Marcus reported grimly. "Richard Sterling wasn't just targeting our corporate assets five years ago. He was tracking everyone close to you."

Ethan’s jaw clenched so tight a muscle ticked in his cheek. Richard Sterling—the very man he had helped send to federal prison months prior—had reached his long, poisonous fingers into Ethan's personal life long before the divorce was even finalized. Richard hadn't just wanted to destroy Ethan's business; he had wanted absolute control over the Vance bloodline.

"Dig deeper into Sterling's prison communications," Ethan ordered. "Find out who he has been talking to over the last forty-eight hours."
