Chapter 8 - The InterrogationTen minutes later, the estate's security team had secured the perimeter. The surviving operative—now zip-tied and gagged—was dragged down into the subterranean archive room.

Ethan stood over the captive, his expression utterly merciless. He pulled the black balaclava off the man’s face, revealing a hardened mercenary with a jagged scar across his neck.

"Who hired you?" Ethan demanded quietly. "Richard Sterling is in federal lockdown. He doesn't have access to outside contractors."

The mercenary spat a clot of blood onto the concrete floor and chuckled weakly. "You think Sterling was the top of the food chain, Vance? You've been fighting middle management for five years."

Ethan’s eyes narrowed. "Speak."

"The syndicate didn't want the company. They wanted the bloodline," the mercenary rasped, coughing violently. "The twins... they carry a genetic marker your grandfather engineered in the old Genesis labs. The board wants them back. And your new little family won't survive the week."

Before Ethan could press further, the mercenary’s eyes rolled back, and his body went completely rigid. A tiny blue capsule had dissolved between his teeth. Cyanide.

Ethan slammed his fist against the concrete wall, cursing under his breath. The threat wasn't neutralized. It was only beginning.
