Chapter 2 - The Family That Wasn't Ready"Ethan, we need to think this through," his mother finally spoke up, stepping forward with a cautious, guarded expression. Years of high-society etiquette had taught her to distrust sudden emotional upheavals. "How can we be certain these children are his? A woman can claim anything when she's desperate."

Claire flinched as if she had been physically struck. She pulled the babies closer to her chest, her protective instincts flaring up instantly. "I'm not asking for your money, Mrs. Vance. I never have. If you doubt me, we can do a DNA test today, right now!"
"Mother, stop," Ethan said, his voice cold and sharp, carrying the absolute authority that had made him a titan in the corporate world. He stood back up, towering over the bench, but his eyes remained locked on Claire. "They have my eyes. There is no need for a test."
He looked back at the woman he had once loved, then divorced, realizing for the first time the immense physical and emotional toll she had endured. Her coat was frayed at the cuffs, her face pale and drawn from exhaustion. The proud, vibrant woman he married had been chipped away by hardship, yet she had carried his flesh and blood through the darkest storms alone.
"You're coming with me," Ethan said, leaving no room for argument.

Claire shook her head frantically. "Ethan, I can't just move into your world. Your life is public, complicated... your board of directors—"
"To hell with the board," Ethan interrupted fiercely. "They are my sons. And you are exhausted. We are going home."
